RESOLUTION

We, some eighty participants at the Uppsala Hearing on the Long Term Effects of War on Humans and the Environment, have heard testimonies and reports from a number of scientists and researchers who have carried out investigations on location. In particular, we have heard of the effects of Agent Orange (AO) in Vietnam and of weapons with so called Depleted Uranium (DU) which the USA have used in Iraq, Afghanistan and former Yugoslavia.

The rate of cancer has multiplied and the cases of grave, congenital deformities have increased several times over in the areas where these weapons have been used. The Swedish public has not been informed of these circumstances. Yet, Swedish soldiers and civilians are being sent to areas that have been contaminated by DU-weapons and have a radioactivity which can reach levels thousands times higher than normal.

We demand that
· Sweden stop sending military or civilian personnel to war areas controlled by the USA;
· Sweden work for the immediate end to the use of DU-weapons;
· Sweden contribute to further research the relationship between AO, DU and the morbidity in countries exposed; and
· Sweden puts pressure on the USA to repair the damage they have caused humans and the environment by their war.
